Writer’s DigestAuthor Solutions, who owns now owns many of the vanity publishing houses including AuthorHouse, iUniverse, Trafford, Wordclay and Xlibris has announced their partnership with Writer’s Digest.

This announcement has sparked a lot discussions and negative comments towards Writer’s Digest and why a 90 year old respected company like Writer’s Digest would get involved with a not so resected company like Author Solutions.

You can find the full press release along with some great commentary at Michael N. Marcus blog: Book Making

Xlibris WAS okay in 2003

I recently had the truly horrible experience of trying to revise a memoir I published with them in 2003 (Before I Go: My First Fifty-six Trips Around the Sun).

Something really bad has happened since Authors Solutions took the Xlibris "imprint" from Philly to Bloomington, Indiana (actually to the Phillipines).

After four different, mostly to somewhat clueless Author Service Reps, I bailed on the revision project.

Maybe others will have better results.

I connected with XLIBRIS/PHILIPINES AND I HAVE HAD EXCEPTIONAL RESPONSE FROM THEM. I AM VERY PLEASED SO FAR. BUT THE BOOK IS NEARLY BUT NOT YET COMPLETE. ARE THERE HIDDEN PROBLEMS I SHOULD BE WARY OF WITH THEM?

Gary, just do a Google search and you’ll see all the problems other authors have had with them. Basically, they are overpriced to start and their extra services are expensive and useless. You can get also more, for a lot less money. They’ll make you an expensive book if that’s all you what, but they won’t be able todo anything else for you, no matter how you pay them.
