Value AddedValue Added, I think the first time I heard was over 25 years ago, I hated the phrase then and I still hate it, but now it has become a part or our business language. Regardless of how poorly defined the phrase is, in the publishing industry Valued Added can mean bringing in customers.

The term Valued Added loosely means to add value in some sort of way to a product or service you provide. Unfortunately many salespeople don't actually define what the "Value Add" is, in the product or service they provide. They only tell us they should purchase their product because it has Value Add.

In the Publishing Industry, we can define some of the things ... and we need to tell our clients and potential clients what we can offer them if they purchase our book. Remember that "giving your customers something for free" does not have to mean giving them some sort of physical item. Giving them something for free could be some well thought out or researched advice that will help them with whatever challenges they have.

For example, if you were promoting a book on healthy eating, you may want to have a website that augments the book or works together with the book. This way people who purchase your book can have the "value add" of the information on your website that in some way augments the information in your book. In this way you are adding value to your book ... by providing free (or for charge) information on your website.

Standing out from the crowd is what book promotion is all about. Getting attention in some way and defining how you are different than other authors and that your book is better than other similar books, is important in gaining book sales. Using some sort of value added feature to help promote yourself and your book is an excellent way of differentiating yourself from the competition.

Think about what you could do that would be something your clients could benefit from in by purchasing your book. The concept won't work for all book, but for those that it can, there could be rich rewards ahead.
