Outline

ruby

I have been busy lately, and I feel really guilty that I haven't been able to spend time on my cookbook.  I have narrowed it down to what I know best....baking.  I have no idea what kind of a market is out there for baking books, so I went to Chapters to check out what kind of books already exist.  I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing...thoughts anyone?  It seemed intimidating to look at all of the beautiful covers with fancy designs and stuff.  Lulu has some tips that I will need to read over...and memorize! I also found that there are some websites specific to book cover design for self publishers.  I guess that it's wrong to be worrying about the cover of my book first.  Well, first I worried about WHAT I was going to write about, NOW, I'm worrying about what it's going to look like!  Perhaps, I should be worrying about what I'm going to put IN the book.

Cookbook it is!

ruby

I think that I have decided to write a book about cooking.  I imagine it won't be successful, but hey, at least I will have a collection of recipes for my family and my children to have when I'm gone.  It's kind of like writing in cement...it will be there permanently.  What I have been doing in the last couple of days is researching on how to go about writing a cookbook....duh.  Good place to start, huh?  So, I went to all of my ancient recipes from my mom's mom...mmmmm peanut butter cookies....none better than grandma's recipe :)  the next that was a sure thing was grandma's roast beef dinner with yorkshire pudding!!  Yum...I'm getting hungry thinking about it.  Roast beef, yorkshire pudding and pb cookies for dessert! A true British indulgence :)....minus the pb cookies.  Maybe I could do a section on British food....um, on further thought, how about not. Gross!  Mushy peas and fish and chips.  That would sure be a SHORT chapter.  I'm next onto researching which kind of a self-publishing company would be recommended for such a publishing endeavour as mine.

Ruby's Blog

Today is my first real day of learning how to enter into the land of self publishing.  Lord I hope I survive!! It seems like there are so many decisions that I have to make just to start writing. Then there's always the decision trying to figure out WHAT to write about.  I know I want to write, I always have, but trying to narrow down the choices is going to be hard. Cookbook, autobiography (in the completely narcissistic way) or write about what I do for work.
